UNC Health Rockingham Hosts a Ribbon Cutting to Open Teammate Caring Corner

EDEN, N.C., January 30, 2025 – UNC Health Rockingham gathered with teammates and Foundation board members for a ribbon cutting celebrating the opening of the Caring Corner for teammates on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2025. The Caring Corner offers teammates a quiet space for self-care, relaxation and reflection as they provide quality care for patients. The UNC Health Rockingham Foundation provided funding for the purchase of a massage chair, Himalayan salt lamps, soothing noise machines, and essential oil diffusers for the newly renovated space within the hospital.

“The Foundation fully supports UNC Health Rockingham’s commitment to employee wellbeing,” said board chair Sam Phillips. “We are proud to partner with the hospital to provide a healing space where teammates can refresh, recharge, and then return to providing the excellent patient care that our community needs.”

The opening of the space coincides with the UNC Health System’s weeklong “Care for Me” celebration which encourages teammates to take charge and prioritize their own wellness journeys. Events throughout the week are part of the systemwide UNC Health for Me program, which demonstrates UNC Health's commitment to teammates from recruitment to retirement that includes ways they are welcomed, engaged, developed, cared for, included and valued. 

“The Caring Corner embodies the spirit of our UNC Health ‘Care for Me’ pillar for our teammates,” said Janine Eanes, director of human resources for UNC Health Rockingham. “Our health care professionals work diligently, often in challenging situations, to ensure patients and their families’ needs are met with kindness and compassion. It is essential that they have a safe space that addresses their overall wellbeing and helps to relieve symptoms of health care worker burnout.”
