Municipal Tech I-IV

Starting Salary Range:  $ 31,756-$57,796 Depending on Qualifications

General Statement of Duties:

An employee in this class performs a variety of skilled work while working alone or as a member of a crew engaged in the construction, inspection, installation, replacement, and repair of collection & distribution lines.   Work involves the operation of various hand tools and construction equipment to install, replace, and repair collection and distribution pipes to specific grades and depths and backfill and compact the site.   Work also includes making taps for collection and distribution mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, and repairing the collection and distribution system.   Occasional public contact is required to make referrals to appropriate personnel.    Employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils.   The employee must also meet OSHA standards for the confined space entry and rescue permit.   Work requires 24-hour on-call service, stand-by service, and emergency call back as needed.   Participates in repairs to manholes to prevent leakage of wastewater or other liquids.   Work is performed under regular supervision and evaluated through observation, evaluations, productivity, compliance with instructions, regulations, required laws, and standard trade and safety practices.   Some independent judgment is exercised.   Employee performs other work as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and construction work, including experience with the operation of heavy construction equipment.

Possession of a valid and appropriate driver’s license, with the ability to obtain a valid appropriate commercial class {A} driver’s license within six (6) months, with a tanker's endorsement.
